5 Common Appliance Problems and How to Fix Them
We take our household appliances for granted until they stop working correctly. Most of the common problems are not as hard to diagnose as you might think. By knowing some of the basic causes of common problems, you can save time, money, and an unneeded service call.
The washing machine won’t start
This is a problem that we’ve all faced at some point. In most cases, it can be related to a faulty door latch, blown fuse, or power supply issue. Before calling a repairman, try to check the outlet, power cord, and make sure the door is shut completely.
Refrigerator is not cooling
A refrigerator not cooling correctly can be caused by dirty or clogged condenser coils. If the coils become clogged with dust, it will restrict airflow and make the refrigerator work harder to keep your food at the right temperature. Make sure to clean the coils and give the refrigerator enough space for airflow.
Dirty dishes after using the dishwasher
If your dishes come out dirty, it might be because of a clogged spray arm or filter. Remove any food debris and clean both the arm and filter frequently to avoid reoccurrence.
Takes too long to dry clothes
In most cases, this is caused by a buildup of lint in the venting system. The poor airflow will make the dryer take longer to dry clothes or cause it to overheat. Check the filter after every use and clean the venting system every few months.
Oven/stove not heating correctly
If your oven or stove is not heating correctly, it might be because of a worn-out heating element or faulty thermostat. Locate these parts and replace them as necessary.
These are just a few of the common problems that you can easily diagnose. It’s always recommended to call a professional for the larger problems, but with the right tools and knowledge, you should be able to fix small issues yourself.
